We only have one world. The responsible handling of energy and natural resources is a fundamental element of our company’s core beliefs. The dynamic and needs-based connection of our individual systems enables us to cut back on peak power consumption. Intelligent energy recovery also contributes to the sustainability of our energy management system. Our new compressed air concept allows us to continually reduce consumption while increasing efficiency. The waste heat resulting from the production of compressed air is used for hot water preparation.

Waste is valuable. 94 % of our waste is recycled or used, while the rest is disposed of using environmentally-friendly methods. Our biological waste air purification plant by far exceeds all legal requirements. Waste air containing solvents is almost 80 % purified using a combination of biological processes that is virtually unique worldwide. Using a three-stage physical process, our waste water is up to 90 % purified without the use of chemicals, and can then be fed into the local waste water treatment plant. Regular independent analyses confirm the water quality. Specially trained employees are responsible for optimum ecological safety at all our sites.

As we are a manufacturer of wooden pencils, we feel that we have a particular obligation to conserve the woodland on our planet. As a certified member of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Schwan-STABILO Cosmetics is committed to the sustainable development of forests. In our company, where the consumption of wood is concerned, social and ecological factors are just as important as economical aspects. The wood we use includes California Cedar, and all the wood we work with is sourced from responsibly managed woodland. The absolute transparency of our wood consumption is monitored by an independent third party.
